Place a transparent PNG cut-out on a solid color or your own photo. Drag, zoom, rotate and flip the subject, then download the finished image.
A plain, clean background makes a picture look professional. Product shots look better on white, a profile photo on a soft gray, and a cut-out on a colorful scene can become a poster or a banner. If you already have your subject on a transparent background, changing what sits behind it takes a minute. This guide explains what you need, how to do it step by step, and how to avoid the most common mistake.
First, what is a transparent PNG cut-out?
A PNG can store transparent pixels. In a cut-out, the subject (a person, a product, a logo) is kept and everything around it is empty. Image viewers usually show that empty area as a checkerboard or as the page color. A normal JPG photo cannot be transparent, so a camera picture will not work directly.
That is the one thing to understand about this tool: it does not cut a subject out of an ordinary photo. It puts a subject that is already transparent onto a new background. If your picture has no transparent area, the original background will cover whatever you choose.
Step-by-step: change the background
- Open the Change Image Background tool.
- Drop your transparent PNG cut-out onto the page.
- Choose the background type: a solid color or a custom photo.
- For a solid color, pick one of the presets (studio white, warm cream, light neutral gray, corporate navy, vibrant red, emerald green or matte black), or choose a custom color.
- For a custom photo, select the picture you want to use behind your subject.
- Drag the subject into place, then use the zoom and rotate sliders. The flip buttons mirror the subject horizontally or vertically.
- Adjust the foreground opacity if you want the subject to blend in.
- Click Download image.
Which background suits which job?
- Studio white is the standard for product listings and online shops, where a clean look matters.
- Light gray or warm cream gives portraits a soft, calm feel.
- Corporate navy works well for professional profile pictures and team pages.
- Vibrant red or emerald green stands out in posters, stickers and banners.
- Matte black makes shiny products and light-colored logos pop.
- A custom photo turns the cut-out into a scene, such as a product on a table or a person in front of a landmark.
Get a clean, natural-looking result
- Start with a good cut-out. Rough edges, leftover halos or a white outline from the old background will show up on a dark new one. Zoom in and check the edges first.
- Match the lighting. A subject lit from the left looks odd on a background lit from the right.
- Match the scale. Resize the subject so it fits the scene. A giant bottle next to a small plant does not look real.
- Use a simple backdrop. A busy background competes with the subject. A slightly blurred photo works much better than a sharp, crowded one.
- Leave some space around the subject if the image will be cropped later for different shapes, such as a square profile picture.
Getting a cut-out in the first place
If you only have a normal photo, you first need to remove its background in a background-removal app or an image editor and save the result as a PNG with transparency. Then bring that file here. Logos and stickers are often available as transparent PNGs already.
What to do after you download
The finished image downloads as a regular picture file. From there you can:
- Put text on it, such as a name, a price or a slogan, with Text to Image.
- Protect it with a name or copyright line using a text watermark.
- Combine several finished pictures into one document with Image to PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Why can't I see the new background?
The image needs a transparent area. Use a PNG cut-out where the background is already removed. Otherwise the original picture covers the new background.
Does this tool remove the background from my photo?
No. It places a subject that is already transparent on a new background. To cut a subject out of an ordinary photo, use a background-removal app first and save the result as a PNG.
Can I use my own photo as the background?
Yes. Switch the background type to Custom Photo, choose your picture, then drag and zoom to position it.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The editing happens in your browser, and your files stay on your device.
